With Basant Panchami, also celebrated as Saraswati Puja, being observed across the country on Friday, preparations have intensified in Janakpurdham and other districts of Madhes Province. Schools, colleges and local communities are actively engaged in finalizing arrangements for idol installation, decoration and worship.
Idols of Goddess Saraswati, revered as the symbol of knowledge and wisdom, are now in the final stage of preparation. According to Janakpurdham-based sculptor Uttimlal Pandit, all idols prepared this year will be delivered to their respective destinations by this evening. He said the idols will be installed at schools, educational institutions, public squares and crossroads.
The idols, made according to demand, are currently available for sale, with prices ranging from Rs. 3,000 to Rs. 21,000 depending on size and design. Pandit noted a slight increase in orders compared to last year, with 40 idols prepared this year against 32 in the previous year.
However, he added that the growing presence of sculptors from India has affected local demand to some extent, as idol-making is no longer limited to local artists alone.
