Democracy Day Celebrated with Grand Ceremony at Tundikhel
Nepal celebrated Democracy Day on Wednesday with a special ceremony held at the Nepal Army Pavilion in Tundikhel. The event commenced with the national anthem, flag hoisting, and a moment of silence in honor of martyrs. A Nepal Army helicopter flew overhead, displaying a banner reading “Democracy Day 2081” and showering flowers as colorful balloons were released.
A march-past and band display were performed by the Nepal Army, Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, and Nepal Scouts. Cultural performances, including the Lakhey dance and Taekwondo demonstrations, were showcased by various municipalities from the Kathmandu Valley.
The ceremony was attended by key political figures, including President Ramchandra Paudel, Vice President Ramsahay Prasad Yadav, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, Chief Justice Prakash Man Singh Raut, Speaker Devraj Ghimire, National Assembly Chair Narayan Prasad Dahal, along with deputy prime ministers, ministers, lawmakers, constitutional body heads, senior government officials, and foreign diplomats.
The day commemorates the establishment of democracy in Nepal on Fagun 7, 2007 BS (February 18, 1951), marking the end of the 104-year-long Rana oligarchy. To honor the occasion, the government declared Wednesday a public holiday.
