“Technology Strengthens Wildlife Protection in Chitwan National Park”
The Chitwan National Park has significantly enhanced its security measures by integrating modern technology alongside traditional patrolling methods. Park authorities have introduced advanced tools such as real-time monitoring systems, CCTV surveillance, drones, and vehicle tracking record systems to improve protection efforts against wildlife crimes.
According to Information Officer Avinash Thapa Magar, the park continues to conduct regular long-, medium-, and short-range patrols, intelligence gathering, and joint investigation operations. In addition, four trained sniffer dogs have been deployed to strengthen security operations within the park.
Traditional patrol methods, including foot patrols, bicycles, elephants, boats, and vehicles, are still actively used, ensuring comprehensive coverage of the park’s vast area. Officials state that the integration of technology has played a crucial role in controlling poaching activities and apprehending individuals involved in wildlife crimes, including those carrying illegal animal products.
Authorities also highlighted the importance of collaboration, noting that local youth groups, park staff, and the Nepali Army have all contributed to reducing poaching. The combined use of modern technology and coordinated efforts has led to notable success in wildlife conservation within the park.
